Low Dose Naltrexone
What is Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)
LDN is a medication that has gained attention for its potential benefits in treating various health conditions. LDN works in a unique way by affecting the body’s natural pain and inflammation pathways. Although its exact mechanism is not yet fully understood, it is believed to enhance the production of certain chemicals in the brain, such as endorphins, which are responsible for reducing pain and promoting a sense of well-being.
Despite its name, LDN is not actually used for pain relief in the same way as traditional painkillers. Instead, it is often prescribed “off-label” by doctors for a range of conditions, including autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS), rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn’s disease. It has also been studied for its potential benefits in fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and various other chronic conditions. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting LDN to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your specific condition.
At LA Compounding Pharmacy we formulate LDN capsules in patient-specific doses. The most commonly prescribed dose is 4.5 mg, however, titration schedules as low as 0.5 mg are available.
